Statement by Deputy Director James Fitzgerald on June 1, 2020:
We as a nation are hurting. The recent events around the country have sparked outrage and protests. The issues that we are facing right now have not been born out of COVID, but rather systemic issues dating back to generations past. I’m here at Stonewall Inn, where 51 years ago LGBTQ individuals took a stand and said “Enough is enough” against police brutality. Black trans women like Marsha P. Johnson and others took a stand in this very spot.
NYC Veterans Alliance stands with all those saying “Our lives matter.” Black lives matter. Queer lives matter. Immigrant lives matter. Trans lives matter. We must unite and be One Nation. Indivisible. With Liberty and Justice for All.
