Join Our Ranks!

Over the last few months, the NYC Veterans Alliance has been busy making a difference for veterans, service members, and their families in the New York Metro area. We're incorporated and filing as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, and we're building steam as a grassroots organization that is member-driven and takes concrete actions on behalf of our community. Here's some of what we've been doing:

Connecting. We've been bringing veterans of all service eras, of diverse backgrounds and political beliefs, together in the common cause of making NYC a better place for veterans, service members, and their families--at events, in online communities, and in committees that will be increasingly active in making a difference. We've been engaging the NYC veterans community on Facebook and Twitter. And we have much more planned for the future.

Informing. We host and maintain a Community Calendar that lists events for veterans and their families across the NY Metro area. We send weekly “SitRep” emails to our membership and those who opt in. Last July, we organized and presented the Forum on NYC Veterans Policy at the New York Public Library, and we’re planning more events in upcoming months.

Advocating. Yesterday we sent a letter to Governor Cuomo. Last week we sent community input to the Manhattan VAMC. We’ve presented testimonies in front of the NYC Council. We’ve spoken out at City Hall. Last June, we produced an in-depth report on NYC veterans policy called “Change is Essential” that went to policymakers and members of our community. And we're continuing to work on addressing a long list of issues that affect veterans, service members, and their families.

Empowering. We’re posting opportunities for veterans to develop in meaningful career and entrepreneurship paths. We’re building a network for veterans to get plugged into that they can learn and grow from. We’re getting veterans involved in leadership and committees. We’re planning initiatives for veterans to work on specific policy areas and learn steps to get ready to run for political office. And that's just the beginning.
